In September 2007, the International prayer initiative 'Coastlands and Gateways' was launched in Liverpool by Sue Sinclair from Community Watchmen Ministries and
Val Baskerville a Bible Teacher and Local Preacher in the Methodist Church, Ulverston.
This gathering was a response to the need across the nations of the UK to have a pro-active prayer strategy in place across the networks; able to quickly mobilise effective prayer when required, e.g. terrorist alerts or natural disasters.
Coastlands and Gateways is a prayer strategy to stand in the gap and pray for the protection, security and safety of our nations by raising up a shield of prayer; It is a call to rise up and stand
as watchmen and gatekeepers and to pray in the authority we have been given.
It mobilised this network for the first time when there was a real threat of the East coast being flooded and many lives lost. Thousands of people were evacuated from their homes as they waited for the impending disaster to strike. Suddenly during the night the wind changed direction and the expected flood did not materialise. Our God is awesome! Really awesome!!
