Christians in Parliament
The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. Isa 58:11
Dear Friends,
As Parliament resumes after the summer recess and the party conferences, please find below some prayer points for your consideration:
- Pray for fellowship between MP's, Peers and Staff at Westminster. That their unity and love across the parties would powerfully demonstrate Christ to their colleagues.
- Christians in Parliament (CiP) will be holding a series of Select Committee Style meetings in November to explore the public freedoms of Christians in the UK. Called ‘Clearing the Ground', the inquiry will provide a snapshot of how the law relates to Christians across a range of key areas. Taking submissions from key Christian public policy and campaign groups, it will produce a resource for Christians to understand their relationship to the law, and it will also make recommendations to government where appropriate. Please pray for Gary Streeter MP as he chairs this important initiative, and also for the Christian MPs and Peers who will constitute the committee. Pray for discernment and wisdom for all.
- After a great launch in Westminster earlier in the year, pray for the second meeting of the European Christian Inter-Parliamentary Forum (ECIF) in Brussels on 29th November. Building on the UK launch, this will draw together parliamentarians from across Europe to develop a formal network to connect and represent Christians across the continent. Pray for fellowship to grow and for guidance from God.
- Please pray Lord Michael Bates as he continues his walk for truce, a 3500 mile walk from Mount Olympus ending in London at the Olympic games to highlight the UN Olympic Truce declaration: www.walkfortruce.org Please pray for physical health, faith and God-encounters on this epic journey.
- Pray for Claire Mathys as she takes up her new role in leading the Liberal Democrat Christian Fellowship; for Colin Bloom as he leads the Conservative Christian Fellowship; and for Andy Flannagan, Director of the Christian Socialist Movement. These are key people for the Kingdom of God in party politics. Pray for strength, protection and favour.
- Pray for the applications for the re-advertised role of Senior Parliamentary Officer for the Bible Society. Pray for the right candidate to apply and be selected for this critically important role for the Christian community in Westminster.
- Pray for the various regular CiP events in Parliament that enable believers to sustain and grow their faith together: the weekly Bible studies; the monthly worship services; the weekly communion service; the weekly prayer meetings.
The next CiP e-mail will be in January 2012. Please do feel free to circulate this further afield and to encourage others to subscribe at www.christiansinparliament.org.uk
God bless you - and thanks again for your prayers.
