News update from the Isle of Man
9 July 2010What a time we have had in recent days when events that had been planned by dedicated groups of Christians around the Island came to fruition. ‘One in the Park' was a great occasion of worship and commitment, attended by 3,200 people, when the Island's churches signed in public a covenant to work together in mission. Sir Richard Dannatt came and spoke to the ‘Island Wide Breakfast' and gave an inspiring talk on ‘Leadership in turbulent times'. Lifepath was a Scripture Union presentation which gave incredible opportunity to connect with year 5 pupils (9-10yr olds) and explore subjects of faith, prayer and lifestyles through lives of believers and followers of Christ.
One in the Park
Here are some comments that have come in to the Bishop's office about Sunday:"It was good that we had such a large (and diverse) attendance on Sunday. The reactions from some quite surprising sources among our politicians were favourable too."
"Just a note of sincere thanks on behalf of the United Reformed Church for all your sterling work and organisation in helping to make Sunday's service such a great success. It was a wonderful event and such a joy to see the church worshipping together in this way as Christ commanded."
"Hearty congratulations to you and all involved in planning one in the park, marvellous time, one of those milestone events which people will look back on as part of their journeys. Let's hope and pray it is the start of something big. God bless."
"One in the Park was great, especially Scripture Union. I had no idea what sort of number were there but it was obviously well supported even though at 9.30am."
"I had some eye lazar treatment yesterday and the consultant's assistant was telling me about his wife's experiences on Sunday in the park. The ophthalmic dept was in a buzz about it all, many second hand accounts but isn't this 'go and tell'?"
