HOUSES OF PRAYER
Relaunch of Houses of Prayer website
As I sit and write this article it is exciting to hear at least 3 new houses of prayer are just launching. This month three brand new houses of prayer: Glasgow, Sheffield and a new one in the Netherlands. We know of others that are being made ready for launch, and only last week spoke to a lady who travelled to view our own house of prayer due to God speaking to her about setting a house of prayer for her community. It should excite us, and perhaps fill us with trepidation of what God is preparing for the earth.
Houses of prayer are but one expression of a prayer movement that is and has been sweeping the globe. We believe that we are one part of the body of Christ, like a finger or a toe, but part of one body. The stories we sometimes hear are an amazing call of God in some unusual circumstances. Houses of prayer are indicative of the prayer movement, they have been around since the first disciples gave themselves to prayer and the word. Monasteries, Retreat houses, hermits all called by our God into a cycle of prayer. The more modern houses demonstrate the same principles, they are called into a cycle of prayer and worship and I believe they will take their place alongside the
established church in time. At the moment many people do not understand their place but when you investigate our history of the outpourings of the Holy Spirit, be it Wesley or Pentecostal, they have been preceded by a deep call to prayer.
The houses of prayer web site http://www.housesofprayer.net or our facebook page of the same name exists to chronicle the movement in prayer, and in particular the movement of houses of prayer. In it's simplest form it is a data base of information. Behind the data base our desire is to help network the houses, to help and encourage new houses. We believe that we are called to be one of the hubs to those called by God into prayer. We are called to work alongside our brothers and sisters who have also heard the call to share themselves. To give support to established houses and
to provide additional resources. We also have communication with our brothers and sisters across the globe, we are one body but we are a massive one, placed in every nation and land on this planet. We are one body and in this communication orientated world it is baffling that we still struggle to unite in the common cause that is Jesus, we do have a persistent enemy that seeks to disrupt through denominational-ism and problems with manifestations of the spirit, very similar to the letters of the apostles to the early church. My limited experience of houses of prayer, and the prayer movement
generally is their openness to any and all of the body of Christ.
Many who visit our own house of prayer feel themselves blessed, we know that we are able to pray anywhere but sometimes we need to put ourselves away in a thin place, created by the prayers of the saints, and spend time with our Father.
May I encourage you:
- If you are already established as a house of prayer, could you forward to us a jpeg logo or photo, supply us with an e-mail address for our readers and give us a shortened account of your story and vision.
- If you have felt the call of God to establish a house of prayer let us know and we will see if we or others nearer to you can help with prayer and support.
- If you have never been to a house of prayer let me encourage you to find one near you and visit it, there is usually a prayer schedule and opening times for just spending time there.
